Some of my friends know how much I hate my father like we rarely talk to each other. So, I was surprised when he told me to stay because we needed to talk about something. It was all about some land inheritance and family history till the Spanish era.
A thread....
Dad started on how big, how smart, how brave, how successful our family is and of course I’m no big fan of it because I almost always get ridiculed by my cousins for having an unsuccessful father unlike my big shot uncles and aunties being docs, lawyers, engineers, & businessmen
And then he said our family name was originally not Patnugot, but resureksyon. Of course I was shocked when he said that! Apparently, my family changed name during the Revolution from the Spaniards because my ancestors were leaders in the revolutionary army in the Iloilo...
He found out about it during the wedding of his cousin because the whole family big shots hired investigators or whatever to research our family history. He told me also that we’re affiliated with the Big shot Garcia’s in subic. And I just knew my family line was illegitimate...
My great grandfather, Tonio, was an illegitimate child of someone who had ties with the Garcias but at the least he was loved. Dunno about what happened to my great great grandfather because pops said they never knew but a Garcia just popped out one day and said it’s a Patnugot
And from this point, pops told me the success of my greatparents. Dad said grandma’s bagoong recipe was a hit from Altavas all the way to major parts in Iloilo. That was the source of our wealth first and then my great grandpa started buying lands from Altavas to nearIloilo bordr
So speaking of lands, this is where the land inheritance kicks in. Our family has about more than 25 hectares of land all over Aklan- I think based on the estimation from every inheritors. And papa inherited about 3 hectares which was at first smaller than that....
Papa told me he fought for his rights for the inheritance from his greedy cousins, uncles, and aunts. I can’t believe how twisted and greedy they were. They were initially giving him only 1.2 hectares because he practically has no stable job. In the end, he still fought and got3H
But I was really surprised in this part where he tells me the reason why he fought for that 3 hectares...

“Inilaban ko yun para sa inyong magkapatid dahil alam ko na mas kekelanganin niyo yan sa hinaharap kesa sa akin na walang alam sa lupain”

I was crying inside my heart
A father may be an incompetent guy, sugarol, hotheaded, or whatever nega stuff but in the end of the day

A father would always love their children and put them first. This is the end of the thread. I made this right now while it’s still fresh so I won’t forget and even if i do, i would just look for this thread up.

Dad told me this since I’m 18 already and I have to sign inheritance papers or whatever after the quarantine
