From a segregated neighborhood to eminent domain, this is how control of a population is maintained for decades https://twitter.com/texasmonthly/status/1249699125156872192
These folks were limited by Jim Crow laws to living only in an area downwind from the sulfur mines & Dow Chemical.
Then the city failed to maintain streets and infrastructure, and permit request for building repairs were continually denied, leaving the neighborhood “blighted” and reducing property values.
Next, the chemical plants and port decided they wanted the land and began “buying out” homesites one change for smaller homes in a flood zone. When some refused they excercised eminent domain.
Next time you think of a home or land that has been in your family for generations, remember these folks who were denied that opportunity.
And remember that contrary to popular belief, it takes more than hard, honest work to build the American Dream for many Americans.
