It's like people that paint a broad stroke over the slasher genre solely based on stuff from the Friday the 13th movies.

Exhausting.
And like, I can admit certain valid points are made, but it really does show when people wholely unfamiliar or disinterested in a genre gon on to make these swooping takedowns of everything *wrong* in a subgenre because of one particular property that got super popular.
That to me is the issue with people invested in pop culture instead of genre as a whole. The one thing in an otherwise niche subgenre that climbs to the popular view, all its tropes and aesthetic choices, is decided to be how all stories in the genre are. It's lazy media analysis
