As discourse on the pandemic continues to flood my social media, I can& #39;t help but to retain a low, simmering resentment to everyone who rolled their eyes and said "geez, JUST WASH YOUR HANDS" for weeks after the virus hit the U.S. and after experts were calling for precaution
But I have to remind myself that challenges of infectious diseases and new zoonotic diseases aren& #39;t common knowledge, so for me to be enraged at people for not having a background in epidemiology/virology or science in general is misplaced at best and somehow elitist in general.
Even my frustration of "why don& #39;t you just listen to the experts" is undermined by this administration& #39;s and country& #39;s distrust of science and leading experts whose research and opinions are tossed aside for the sake of saving face or benefiting interests outside of public health
I& #39;m not sure what the point of this thread is but here& #39;s where I& #39;m at right now: Yes, I do remember each time someone told me that everything will blow over or that the precautions are an overreaction. Yes, I am still glaring at the "wash your hands
