I am really shocked that there are still people who are naive about the CCP and the challenge that it presents to the world.
Imagine how the last few years will look in history books...
By 2017, it became apparent that the PRC had built a network of concentration camps holding
millions of Uyghurs in indefinite captivity. That same year, the country’s first Nobel Laureate died prematurely in prison, with no mourning allowed.
In late 2019, the government actively covered up a virus spreading in the city of Wuhan. It eventually spread around the world as a result, infecting millions and killing hundreds of thousands (or more?)
As the virus spread around the world, the PRC government made baseless claims that the virus may have been brought to Wuhan by the US military, doing anything that it could to dodge responsibility for its own mistakes.
Then in April of 2020, the PRC government began forcing people of African descent, regardless of travel history, into quarantine for absolutely no reason, and denying all “foreigners” access to markets, restaurants and other facilities....
Seriously, this is an accurate description of the last few years. How anyone could be nonchalant about the CCP and it’s threats to democracies around the world truly blows my mind.
The fact that the CCP enjoys general public support does not make any of this any better. It only makes things worse. The PRC today, I fear, is really a danger to the world, and is simply not going to learn from any of its mistakes. The future seems truly grim.
What we need right now isn’t more predictable identity politics and “oh the west is so bad.” There needs to be a recognition of the profound threat that the system that has been forced on China for the past seventy years presents to all of us
