A guide for anybody who wants to play havoc with a domestic router touting a racist slogan for an SSID (or for that matter, a perfectly normal WiFi network operated by someone who is an annoying cunt). /1 https://twitter.com/mathaiaus/status/1249592371739680773
Obviously the network has to be open, or you have to be already connected to it. Cracking WPA2 passwords is beyond the scope of this thread but a good guide to doing so can be found here: https://github.com/brannondorsey/WiFi-cracking /2
When fucking around with a domestic router and the person who owns it, you need to be working towards one or all of the following goals: making the experience of using the network extremely painful, and/or bricking the hardware entirely to the subject's financial detriment /3
Obviously a compromised router is only the beginning of your adventure if you are seeking network penetration, but again that's out of scope. The key to really making someone's life hell is to do so in ways that are subtle enough they don't just do a hardware reset /4
On most domestic routers you'll have control over DNS and routing, MAC address tables, port forwarding, WiFi settings, WAN dialling, firewall and parental control settings, and firmware updates. Here are some ideas for them all. /5
1. Use a WiFi analysis app to find the most congested WiFi channel in the local area, and change their main WiFi channel to that. 2. Look at the list of devices enrolled in their DHCP or WiFi table and block the MAC address of any phones or tablets (obvious by their hostname) /6
Don't block any computers, mobile devices have enough problems with WiFi connectivity that they probably won't immediately twig if you restrict just those. 3. Change their router DNS servers from their ISP assigned ones to unreliable ones found at http://public-DNS.info /7
4. Create static routes or firewall entries to block access to specific popular sites, but not all sites. 5. Turn off automatic reconnection on their internet connection. 6. Slightly modify their port forwarding rules, not all of them and just by a single port number. /8
9. Adjust their MTU size. 10. Disable and clear all logging to cover your tracks. 11. If you've managed to string them along for a good long while, or you just want to go for the kill, install incompatible firmware for a different generation or model from the same manufacturer /9
