There are few obvious ways out once politics has become your profession, especially if you’re an organiser or deal with process. Who else, other than Labour Party or some big unions need those skills? (2/x)
It takes up evenings and weekends and so takes over social life, esp on Labour side. Labour insiders hang out with other Labour people all the time. Many met at uni.
The hierarchy is murky and always changing. Way harder to figure than corporate life. If you have a clique you’d do well to stick with it. At least you know where you are.
So, not surprising there is bad behaviour on all sides.

But HR issues are not why Labour has an anti-Jewish racism problem and not why Labour lost in ‘17 and ‘19.
On the Labour side, unions ought to be a way out of the navel gazing. But not true often enough as union leaders too often out of step with rank and file members on specific issues and even more on what matters most
