allow me to vent and sigh in LGBQTIA a bit loudly
for a week now i’ve been arguing with some person on YouTube (yeh yeh, that was my first mistake) abt whether the question “WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE LGBQTIA COMMUNITY” asked at a con panel is a “career-ending trap.” (1/?)
for a week now i’ve been arguing with some person on YouTube (yeh yeh, that was my first mistake) abt whether the question “WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE LGBQTIA COMMUNITY” asked at a con panel is a “career-ending trap.” (1/?)
for some context, someone asked that question during the last 10 or so minutes of a My Hero Academia voice actor panel. it happens here at the 33:30 mark. (2/?)
of course people lambasted the qurstion and the person who asked it on YouTube. i wanna say “because YouTube, i guess” but sometimes some problems go deeper than that. (3/?)
i came in to tell people to back off a bit coz even if the question was awkward, the moment seemed fine and the actors had seemingly sincere answers and since it was the
last 10 minutes, maybe the person had had their original question asked by someone else and this was — (4/?)
last 10 minutes, maybe the person had had their original question asked by someone else and this was — (4/?)
— the first question they could think of. but the person whose comment i replied in wasnt having it, unfortunately.
(i apologize, it’s a long read with tiny font. coz YouTube, i guess.) (5/?)

so at this point, im irked that they’re blaming the question for the mere POSSIBILITY of exposing homophobia that might not even be there to be exposed and calling that career-ending, instead of blaming any possible homophobia and bigotry directly for ending careers. (6/?)
i point out what i think is a very simple logic - it’s a trap if the person who asked has the intention of exposing anything, AND if there was anything about these actors to expose. if they ave nothing to hide, they have nothing to fear. dude wasnt buying that logic either. (7/?)
the dude then becomes ticked off coz in his head, im more interested in cancelling people the SECOND i hear even a HINT of homophobia, as if homophobia is something to let slide at all. so i tell him again: ppl who arent homophobes dont have to fear being exposed as one. (8/?)
he further accused me of being more interested in cancelling people, which tells me he really doesnt get that “WHAT DO YOU THINK OF GAY PPL,” tho a leading question that can get fake answers, isnt a problem - homophobia and bigotry are. so i try AGAIN to end it. (9/?)
i’ve tried to handle that as politely as possible, no matter how hard my patience was tested. but im posting all of it here now i guess coz i’ve felt all alone on THAT road throughout the entire week-long “convo” and im both looking for a bit of sympathy or validation, — (10/?)
— and also wondering now AITA. because as far as im concerned, the logic is simple. if you dont have any open flame inside your house, you dont have to worry about it catching on fire. that seems simple and correct enough in my head, but because im a coward, not having — (11/?)
— back-up in this fight has me second-guessing myself but also seeking attention, validation and/or a proper speaking-to more than i usually do. (12/?)
am i right to view and defend the question as neutral and try to cast focus on homophobia being the (bigger) suspect in ending people’s careers, or am i an idiot AND an asshole? (13/13)
im sorry this thread was long and physically hard to read. i’ve gotten to the state in argument!me where i get sad that my point is not being heard or understood when all im trying to do is stand up for something, and then i start to berate myself for being a dumb asshole. :/
