Have you ever seen the words & #39;Viking& #39; and & #39;manscaping& #39; in the same sentence? It& #39;s not a joke, they loved combing their hair! https://twitter.com/EMidsVikings/status/1249658143245840385">https://twitter.com/EMidsViki...
For what it& #39;s worth, I looked up the word & #39;braid& #39; once in the Old Norse dictionary and it& #39;s extremely rare
Ponytails were all the rage, though, maybe even twisted like a rope. Detail from the Stora Hammar picture stone no. 1 in Gotland, and Sigyn holding a cup over Loki on the Gosforth cross in Cumbria.
And ponytails with coils at the base. Detail from the Tjängvide picture stone in Gotland, a small figurine and a gullgubbe, both from Sweden.
These might have head coverings, it& #39;s hard to tell. Small Swedish figurine and figures from the Oseberg tapestry.
There& #39;s also this excellent little figurine from Hårby in Denmark.
I found this article, & #39;Viking Age Hair& #39; by Elisabeth Arwill-Nordbladh, very helpful when researching my book, among other sources. https://intarch.ac.uk/journal/issue42/6/8.cfm">https://intarch.ac.uk/journal/i...
