From @CNN. This is their top story on the website.

"Trump won't get the 'big bang' economic reopening he wants"

A couple reasons this story, and many like it, annoy me. A quick thread. 1/
Honestly. Who doesn't want the economy to come back big and fast? I sure as hell want that. Do you? I assume all of us WANT this to happen, too.

So why does the media always phrase it as if this is something Trump wants as if that's abnormal to want it? 2/
We got story after story about Trump wanting the economy open by Easter. Once again, don't we all want it to open as quickly as we can given safety and health concerns?

We now get the same stories about May 1. "Trump wants the economy open by..." 3/
CNN acknowledges that this largely WON'T be up to Trump. Something I've said repeatedly. It will be up to state and local governments. Which is exactly how it SHOULD be.

We want to bend the curve. But that curve is different in every state and every city. 4/
Trump has acknowledged that the decision for how we reopen the economy is the biggest decision he's been faced with in his life. Despite Trump's many flaws, he actually does recognize the gravity of this decision. People are dying. People will continue to die. 5/
And no matter HOW LONG we wait to reopen the economy, we are going to get spikes / new peaks in confirmed cases and deaths. There really is NO way around this. We could wait till August 1, and we're still going to get new spikes. It's literally inevitable. 6/
It's not possible to shut down our economy until there's a vaccine. So any reopening of the economy WILL lead to deaths, no matter when it's done.

This sucks. There is no RIGHT answer for how to do this. Saving EVERY life unfortunately isn't possible or even reasonable. 7/
And once we start turning the economy back on, we can't seesaw back and forth attempting to open it, then close it again, just because we create a new curve. 8/end
