For today’s thread, I’ll be talking about corporate governance.

Strong culture of transparency, accountability and integrity is key to achieving the goal of becoming a world class investment house. This can only be achieved by having rigorous internal policies and processes.

Our investments are guided by a Shariah manual developed based on existing Shariah standards around the globe, to be in accordance with Shariah principles. This is also a reason why we cannot take unnecessary risks with our funds, e.g. hedge funds (usage of derivatives)

All investment recommendations go through a multi-layer governance process to ensure oversight, transparency, accountability. Ideas are generated via teams, discussed with CEO, deliberated at Investment Committee Meeting, and if need be at PNB Board.

PNB’s BOD is the ultimate decision-making body, ensuring that strategic direction, oversight, governance is adhered to. The board composition has combination of regulatory, legal, investment, government, banking & corporate experience.

With the enforcement of S17A of the MACC Act taking effect in June, adequate procedures for the prevention of corruption have been firmly placed. We also established the Whistleblowing Policy and the Integrity Charter and Framework. PNB also has a Chief Integrity Officer.

I hope the brief explanation above answers some questions on our structure, decision making process, and oversight mechanism. After 6 months of being in PNB, I find this role to be the biggest privilege that life could accord me. Your money is safe and in very good hands.
