I've probably mentioned this before, but a peculiar feature of my subconscious is a recurrent dream in which I have written – some years back – a brief biography of Delius.

I don't know why this should be. I'm not familiar with his work and even less familiar with his life. But there we are. Anyway, things took a fresh turn last night when I was invited to write a biography of Mozart on the basis of my Delius book.

I was in two minds, not least because @History_Lauren had just written a critically acclaimed biography - which even in the dream I thought looked surprisingly like Lauren's real-world critically acclaimed book on Henry VI - and thought any effort of mine would pale in comparison

I took the job, obvs, because the cash would come in handy. (It was a dream, after all, not a fantasy.) And because it would allow me to write about Kanye West – but I didn't get the chance to discuss *that* idea with my editor before I was wrenched awake.
