You should be keeping your braids in for max 6 weeks. Reason why - your hair especially where itâs planted starts to lock. This together with product build up at the root results in hair breaking.
After 6 weeks, please consider undoing your braids

After 6 weeks, please consider undoing your braids
While undoing your braids, keep your hair hydrated and wet. This helps minimize breakage due to hair being dry. Keep a spritzer bottle with a little oil and water in it close to you. As you undo your hair keep spritzing it.
When youâve taken a group of braids out, comb/brush or detangle your hair. Donât leave this for the end. It becomes a nightmare
Once youâve detangled it apply oil on the detangled section to ready it for pre-pooing. Do a two strand knot
One youâre done undoing all of them and oiling your hair up, hydrate it and wrap it up and leave over night. This will help remoisturise and nourish your hair overnight before washing it. Remember your hair is already dry and tired
NB Wash your hair the next day (see our TL for wash day threads). Itâs NB to wash your hair the next day and to incorporate a deep conditioning wash. Remember your hair needs all the love!
