East Coasters, there& #39;s a dangerous storm arriving today, Monday. Crises don& #39;t wait their turn. Sometimes we can have multiple emergencies.
Wind gusts could be up to 60 MPH, so put away or secure your lawn, deck, outdoor furniture and items.
There may be power outages, so if you use a water pump you should have water on hand (tap is fine, fill a few pots, fill your bathtub). Make a lot of ice in case your fridge or freezer goes down. If you have a cooler, have it ready.
Freezers & fridges: you lose power, take out just what you think you& #39;ll eat that day, put it in the cooler with ice. Put a bag of ice in the fridge. Then use a little duct tape on your freezer & fridge doors. This is just to remind you not to open the door during an outage.
Opinions differ on how long food stays good in an out-of-power fridge, but at least this will buy you a little time.
You need your flashlights and batteries ready.
Have the numbers of your utility suppliers handy.
