Increasingly frustrated with the political and bureaucratic shambles 'directing' lab diagnostics for #COVID19. There are constant calls for more testing, but we're receiving less than half the number of samples we could test. 1/2

However, we're not supposed to test staff samples, but instead they are being sent to Germany!
Meanwhile 'national diagnostic hubs' (staffed with PhD students) are being prioritised for reagent supply over our lab (staffed by qualified healthcare scientists). 2/2

Undoing the chronic lack of funding and belt-tightening imposed on the labs who have been doing this type of work for years (decades) would be more helpful than reinventing the wheel. (oops, that's 3/2 - time to stop moaning now!)
