HSE's @paulreiddublin says that the backlog of tests is now 11,000. At its peak, there were 35,000 waiting.

He says that 72,000 tests have now been completed, with 7,900 tests alone completed on Saturday!

Turnaround times in hospitals are now 24-36 hours.
HSE has hired a consultant from @EYnews to examine the "end-to-end" testing process and identify any improvements.
HSE says the 11,000 backlog will be cleared this week.

Irish labs are now processing 2,800 tests daily, but @paulreiddublin says this will reduce as demand for tests falls.

He says there was an average of 1,200 per day requesting tests last week.
My own estimate here - if Irish labs are processing 2,800 tests per day, but only 1,200 per day are *new* requests for tests, then ~1,600 per day of tests are backlog clearing.

Add in the German labs, and that backlog is probably falling sharply.

All positive news here.
11,000 backlog, against ~1,600 per day of backlog clearing in Irish labs.

That means the Irish labs alone would clear the backlog is 6.8 days (one week)

Add in German labs and the backlog will clear in the next few days!
