#LeavingCert2020
A thread x
So I wasn’t gonna post my opinion on this because I tend to keep my opinions to myself but I’ve had enough.
I believe people need to stop slandering the govt , Mr Varadkar and Mr Mc Hugh. We are in the middle of a pandemic they are doing their best.
I understand it is frustrating, it angers me to hear people not doing the leaving cert turning around and telling us to “just sit the fucking thing”. It is hard yes, but take it as a positive.
Let’s be honest, they didn’t listen to our teachers, so , why would they listen to us?
Students believed that all of a sudden we could scrap the leaving cert and put into place predicted grades as had been implemented in many other EU countries. But a portion of these countries exams are based on continuous assessment.
Let’s take France and “le bac”. It’s the closest EU equivalent to the Leaving Cert. The group this year were the “guinea pigs” for the new Bac. So they had 40% of their exams finished before they set foot in a room.
In certain subjects we too have been given this boost - Irish and European languages for example.
There is the question of the practical exams but we all know they can’t cancel everything in the one day so please just have patience.
As for predicted grades the systems are simply not in place , no matter how people do it and how unbiased they are we need to think of how unfair it is for so many who only kick into gear after their pres.
Predicted grades are also not fair as for the pres the majority of us students dont have the monopoly of the full course -we are not yet aware of our weaknesses and our strengths in relation to subjects.
@leovaradkar has returned to fight on the front line while @BorisJohnson decided to take up a hospital bed.
Was the option for the leaving cert that they picked ideal? No it most certainly was not.
Was there any other viable solutions for the leaving cert? No there was not.
