Started watching 3 Will Become Free last night, because @Tawan_V, but Mae's easily became my fave narrative arc in the series. Here's her talking about delaying her dream of opening a resto, cos she's saving up for transition. She rejected a man's offer to help her do it.
I also get concerns abt trans visibility in mainstream series, so I appreciate the writing of Phon and Mae's relationship. It's refreshing and empowering. Here's what Phon had to say abt Mae pursuing her truth and happiness.
This series has so many feminist lines, delivered in light and impactful ways. Here's Mew (my second favorite character) serving tea about male dominance in society:
On women playing like how men do it.
It's refreshing to see writing that didn't focus on the coming out struggle. Stan characters who break gender binaries ans send a message that they're immaterial to happiness.
Tay Tawan pa rin talaga tayo dito, mga mamsir.
On sex work and selling your body as legitimate means to survive, and that the appreciation of art is mostly a luxury for the upper class.

Gusto ko iyong may class analysis talaga dito.
The usual BL storylines can suck it. The biggest drop of 3 Will Become Free is polyamory.

In an Asian society, that's relatively new. It's misrepresented, misunderstood, and overly sexualized. Ang ganda ng kwento ng pag-ibig na walang kinikilalang bilang at kasarian.
Ah, I forgot to add: Yes to multi-dimensional characters! 3 Will Be Free explores a person's moral conflicts. Nobody is absolutely good or bad.

Here's Shin (Tawan) coming out to his parents, and the dad - who's a kingpin and drug lord - reacted in a way I never expected.
Last na: on loneliness, and the feeling that you will never have a shot to genuine happiness.

Iba talaga si Jennie Panhan. Mapapa-Raikan Topeni ka talaga. I've never seen an attempt to discuss and portray societal taboos this deep since Hormones.
