1. #DirectProvision Centres are operated by private companies. These are businesses run for profit. They are not charitable or NGO style structures.
2. These companies and their management are NOT skilled-trained experts in social-medical-physiological support.
3. Immediately, these centres must be taken into state control and be under direct oversight by HSE, Child Protection Agency. The issue of domestic abuse and women’s support is also important.
4. #AsylumSeekers in all centres should have direct input to the running of these centres. It is, after all, their lives that are managed without them having any say in
5. These are in no way a replacement for our call to #EndDirectProvision. It MUST end. We have been putting these demands forward for many years, along with the call for #EndDP.
6. #Coronavirus is about #solidarity. Solidarity can’t be selective and exclusive. Here is an act of solidarity. Grant all asylum seekers official #Refugee status. Revoke all deportation orders.
7. Alternatives to Direct Provision do exist. a) Unconditional right to work - This is the key. b) Right to social protection, not weekly payment of pocket money c) Free access to college education.
d) Housing rights.
