It is absolutely fucking infuriating how many geeks and spawn of the 90s and 00s internalized the idea that politics is bad and we should avoid it whenever possible, because Good Art is Beyond Politics and Politics is innately staining and corrupting.

But yeah like people act like "politics!" is something to avoid at all costs. Doing so was normalized in a lot of nerd circles throughout the 90s and 00s and 10s, since it was seen as a source of division and dated lameness. The goal was to be Beyond Politics, Timeless.

And we see it in the vapid susceptibility of gamers and geeks to being manipulated by bad faith actors, and in their terror of their touchstone properties being begrimed with "getting political."
