Absolutely tragic numbers. Worth noting that we still have available ventilators. It’s unlikely that all care is optimal but there seem to be no deaths from lack of beds/ ventilators. So “preventable” deaths, even w our high transmission rate are low. https://twitter.com/vicderbyshire/status/1249599461912961024
There are preventable deaths: deaths of healthcare workers due to lack of access to PPE; the impossibility of providing perfect care in an NHS starved of cash and depleted of morale over many years; the comorbidities driven by austerity are perhaps the largest factor
The government should answer for those deaths - but the care we are giving is good quality thanks to the extraordinary efforts of NHS Staff & many others and the increase in facilities has so far been effective
