If anything, this Corona Virus has changed everything business wise. Tourism has been hardest hit & this calls for new strategies altogether. After Cori era, domestic tourism may boom as most outbound travels will decline drastically. (Locals travelling abroad ) [A thread ]
For the longest time, one of the barriers has been that of affordability, especially those exclusive 5* Bush Lodges. The market share will shrink due to incoming tourists numbers declining, the local traveller that preferred overseas trips will start looking for options locally.
This means domestic tourism which has always been a lower hanging fruit will now thrive, most local travellers preferred holidaying overseas because of value for money. One would rather go to Turkey or Bali if the travel costs are similar to Shot Left. I would do the same too.
Comparatively speaking, it became cheaper to go to Europe than to travel locally. SA has a lot of untouched hidden routes that only a £€$ traveler can afford. Establishments &Hotels need to go back to the drawing board and rethink their pricing strategies to accommodate us.
