OTD 8yrs ago I was in Kathmandu exploring the city. This was the Hindu temple where cremations took place. Each platform was a funeral pyre. The ashes were then swept into the river. They would mix the wood with incense and other things to disguise the smell 1/5
Walking around the centre was all hustle and bustle. All the wires above were electrical wires...and there were a lot. One of the biggest problems was glue sniffng. It was heartbreaking seeing young kids on the streets off their face on solvents 2/5
Some you would walk past not knowing if they were dead or alive. It’s quite a big problem in the city.
The architecture of the temples are pretty amazing to look at. Made of wood, very intricate and very old 3/5
Also very colourful too. Whilst Nepal is a third world country, the friendship and hospitality we were shown was fantastic. I genuinely loved walking around Kathmandu. The whole atmosphere was something else. 4/5
Each day I am recreating my Everest Base Camp Trek 8yrs ago inspired by @keswickbootco and their #virtualwalk The idea being to remember happier memories rather than the lockdown. Tomorrow is the flight to Lukla airport. 5/5
