I’m bored so...
thread of racist/ignorant takes my teachers have made throughout my k-12 education
thread of racist/ignorant takes my teachers have made throughout my k-12 education
ok we’ll start with my senior year bc why not? anyways, had a VERY problematic teacher tell the class that white privilege didn’t exist and that we could not assess what she’s been through by the color of her skin....

she also mentioned what her Irish ancestors went through and she tried to equate that to POC struggles... the whole class was like
so this was the year the #metoo
movement gained momentum (shout-out to all of the brave survivors, you guys deserve the world) and this woman really had the audacity to say getting catcalled was a compliment. and that didn’t get the #metoo
movement...

that she was never harassed so then there’s ~~~no way~~~ all of those women have been harassed.... the ignorance luv i should’ve been paid to sit through this torture
as you can imagine she was ALSO a blue lives matter supporter and would complain about ppl kneeling for the flag... yikes
I’m pretty sure I could write a whole essay with all of her ignorant takes but we’re moving on... it was the year Beyoncé performed Formation for the super bowl and this other teacher literally said “Beyoncé is getting too political. I don’t enjoy her anymore”
first of all, don’t ever try to drag Beyoncé ever again and second of all: Beyoncé is a Black woman.. how are you going to tell a Black woman to not be political after the way this country treats its Black folk??? third of all, YOU ARE A HISTORY TEACHER.
also Beyoncé isn’t here to cater to your white fragility... but I guess I expect anything more from a teacher who once made us compare the treatment of workers in the industrial revolution era to freaking slavery??? like wtf???
talking about “white ppl were being oppressed by their own ppl so in a way it was worse”

the most disgusting take. this is what white america is trying to preach to a majority POC class...

okay my Italian teacher... yikes. the amount of things she said and did to students was not okay. background info: I had this teacher for give or take 9 years of my k-12 education with a gap during my middle school years
so like when I got to high school I was her favorite already bc she knew I was an obidient student (ew can’t even believe myself). freshman year, I decided to sign up for a program and I had her write my letter of rec since the other teachers didn’t know me as well
and like she’s only met my parents once... I never, ever shared shit about my parents bc tbh it never came up. but in my letter of rec, without my permission, she wrote that they didn’t speak English (which like okay my mom’s not exactly fluent but WTF)
she alluded that they were uneducated which... idk how you can immigrate from another country and still be considered uneducated when you literally have to teach yourself EVERYTHING from English to politics to how to file taxes
she also had this very odd white savior complex... she kept trying to force her way of life on several POC students and I just ??? tbh, back then when my brain was peanut sized, I really believed that the students who rebelled against her in class were just super disrespectful
but honestly, if a white woman was making me expose my trauma to the whole class and then still not understanding that her way of life is not feasible for us bc we don’t have her privilege, I’d be mad too wtf...
anyways, she was a whole mess. told me I shouldn’t waste my time applying to private colleges bc I wasn’t rich enough for it. had a scholarship, which I admit is kinda nice, but the essay was literally about how do I uphold patriarchal values....

mind u my liberal ass at the time was literally PISSED. I’m proud to say that I did not sellout in that moment, as much as that money could’ve helped me

also my history teacher freshman year had an Asian fetish... not going to get into it besides that he tried marrying a Korean woman and was rejected and he really over shared way too much bc I shouldn’t know this about my teachers

ok this thread is starting to bore me so in conclusion... I’ve had some really problematic teachers. and like truth is that we need more teachers of color so that students can see themselves represented.
