Moving on to the rules of my #dosgamesjam TTRPG. I might use Fate instead of PbtA because I find it easier and don't want to take too long, but OBVIOUSLY I have to overthink it first
The setting is 90s/Star Control inspired so the aesthetic's probably fine, but is there a way to make Fate seem more 90s? Perhaps replacing Fate dice with an extremely bad dice pool mechanic,
There are d6 variants already but I'm not sure if I want to make it clunkier/swingier, tbh https://fate-srd.com/fate-system-toolkit/other-dice
I think I could keep regular Fate dice and turn stunts into some kind of 90s talent tree nonsense, perhaps
Or just not worry about how much the mechanics contribute to the aesthetic

Have just been reminded that Fate used to be an acronym for "Fantastic Adventures in Tabletop Entertainment", and if that's not 90s enough I don't know what to tell you
DEAR READER: But Ettin, wouldn't a Star Control-based game necessarily need a space combat system, which you would have to write yourself?
ME: [enlarging the font size on the words "BUY TACHYON SQUADRON"] You'd think that
