Okay kids, we rewatched and reread The Hunger Games and we’re making this a thing. Before I start Catching Fire again, some thoughts:
Teenage me took the worldbuilding for granted. Everything is so iconic and thought out.
I’m still not loving the love triangle, but oddly enough, I think being a romance-fixated teen made my perception of it less charitable, not more. Back then I wanted to feel more invested in the romance than I did (comically missing the point) and now I’m like “PEOPLE ARE DYING”.
I have a lot more sympathy for Katniss this time around, I have to say. Girl’s just trying to work the crowd so she can stay alive!
I mostly enjoyed the movies back when they came out, and I think it’s because the characters and their feelings are clearer to me in a visual setting. Reading the book, pretty much everything the film does right is there, but it connects with me more in the film.
That being said, no costumes the movies did could ever live up to my imaginings of Katniss’ dresses.
Bitter that Peeta didn’t lose his leg in the movie and we didn’t really see him or Katniss immediately after leaving the arena. Collins created some good moments with those.
Also THANK GOODNESS FOXFACE WAS JUST A NICKNAME. I was genuinely worried for a while there.
Now to continue the series so I can add to this thread that no one asked for.
