That’s the thing. Many men still believe that women deserve rape in certain circumstances and in some cases as punishment for the wrongdoings of others. Gang rape as punishment is not a new phenomenon actually. Let’s take a walk.
1. A couple of years ago in India, a man was accused of sexually assaulting a married woman (a heinous crime in itself). But it was the punishment that was baffling. The village head
reportedly ordered the rape of his 14-year-old sister as his punishment. https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2014/07/15/331347739/why-a-village-leader-ordered-the-rape-of-a-14-year-old-in-india">https://www.npr.org/sections/...

2. Here in 2002 a Pakistani woman was gang-raped as punishment for the alleged sins of her brother. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-29661011">https://www.bbc.com/news/worl...
3. Another one. A teenage girl was ordered to be raped because of the her brother’s alleged crimes. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/07/26/pakistan-village-council-members-arrested-ordering-revenge-rape/amp/">https://www.google.com/amp/s/www...
When rape is being prescribed as punishment for the sins of someone else, it goes straight to the root of failure to acknowledge the humanity of the woman. She’s just a medium through which you want to inflict pain on another person.
It has been said countless times. Rape isn’t about sexual desire, or what the woman was wearing or what she did wrong. It is about power and violence.
