@MaxBoot - thank you for the interesting read but I take issue with a few points.

Further, war is fought and won at the lowest level. Officers at the lowest lever - and their troops - are not taking cues from the Commander-in-Chief. Discipline and good order is built and enforced by NCOs on the ground, not the by the President in Washington.
The military is not a place for politicization or socialization. Take time to understand the lowest level troops, why they fight, and how discipline is built from the ground up. Write, as it is essential to the republic, but keep the Officer corps and troops writ large out of it.
