I lost my mother at a very young age, but in my mother-in-law, I found what I had been missing my whole life - a mother, a friend, a teacher, and my biggest cheerleader.” - @Mohinivoice. #TheyInspireMe #DalitHistoryMonth #DALITWOMENFIGHT
Today, for #DalitHistoryMonth, meet Savitri Devi, who’s breaking all the stereotypes this society has created about daughter-in-law and mother-in-law relationships. #TheyInspireMe #DalitHistoryMonth
I am Mohini, a feminist social worker. Today, I want to tell you the story of Dalit woman, who is a feminist in its true sense and is a housewife. A woman who inspires me every day - my mother-in-law, Savitri Devi. #TheyInspireMe #DalitHistoryMonth
Even though she is my mother-in-law, she has taken care of me like my own mother. She was born in Panipat, Haryana. When she was 4 years old, her mother passed away after being bitten by a snake. #TheyInspireMe #DalitHistoryMonth
At the age of 9, she was forced to marry her elder sister's brother-in-law, who was 10-12 years older than her. She was compelled and taught to stay silent and to cover her head with a veil at all times. However, she was much more than what she was forced to learn. #TheyInspireMe
She was fiercely independent and always helped her husband in the fields. Refusing to bow down to anyone or let anyone make her feel small, she made sure that she worked alongside people from the Jaat community. #TheyInspireMe #DalitHistoryMonth
She would never let anyone raise a finger on her and would do everything in her power to raise voice for the rights of other housewives like her. #TheyInspireMe #DalitHistoryMonth #DALITWOMENFIGHT
Love marriage is still frowned upon, especially in areas where we belong to, however, when her children fell in love, she supported them with all her heart and organised grand weddings for them. She made sure that all her children receive a proper education. #TheyInspireMe
Post her sons' weddings, she encouraged her daughters-in-law to continue their studying & step out of the house and work.

If I get late due to work or have to go out of town, she's the one who takes care of my child. No matter how late it gets, she waits for me like a mother.
Whenever I see people cracking jokes about daughter-in-law and mother-in-law arguments and relationships, it angers me. We need to break this stereotype now! My mother-in-law has been breaking this very stereotype and more for long now. #TheyInspireMe #DalitHistoryMonth
I still wonder, coming from a place where no one talks about women equality, how did she unlearn everything wrong that was fed to her? Without even knowing what feminism means, how did she become a fierce feminist? I have seen the dream of equality for every woman in her eyes.
Through her, I have learnt to be fierce myself. I lost my mother at a very young age, but in her, I found what I had been missing my whole life - a mother, a friend, a teacher, and my biggest cheerleader. #TheyInspireMe #DalitHistoryMonth
