Zarathustra is worse than all of Nietzsche’s aphoristic works
The episodes in Zarathustra halfway want to be aphorisms, halfway want to be scripture—but both Nietzsche’s aphorisms and Jewish holy books grow from the deep black soil of historical particularity. A lot of the passages just feel vague and arbitrary.
Nietzsche was never much of a systematizer, so neither does Zarathustra work as a grand allegory, or a book of Serious Philosophy
Deleuze’s Nietzsche and Philosophy is a misreading of Zarathustra in this^^ direction, and it’s very good—but it’s also almost funny how COPE it is
Some passages of the Deleuze book are woven into my brain stem at this point—see this thread https://twitter.com/biodysphoria/status/1021454808077733890?s=20
