Lockdown should last 6 to 8 more weeks to completely flatten, if not reduce spread of the coronavirus. Then institute tracking and tracing of remaining carriers to isolate them for 14 days.

The longer it takes to enforce lockdowns, the longer it will take to end the disease.
Countries that isolated early (Taiwan, South Korea, Norway, NZ, Iceland, Singapore, Malaysia) were able to implement tracking and tracing early on to stop the spread almost entirely. Only new cases are transmitted from asymptomatic carriers to close family members.
It may be possible to do a limited reopening in some places with low enough infections but there has to be tracking and tracing in place for that to happen and travel restrictions to and from high risk areas like NYC.
This could've all ended in March but everyone insisted on "saving the economy." If you reopen everything lots people aren't gonna make it and workers will very likely go on strikes over personal safety, thus rendering the entire effort both pointless and deadly.
I'm sorry this upsets people. If you had better people in charge who were willing to make hard choices instead of waffling around with half measures we'd all be talking about how awful things were during the quarantine.
