Last time I called the cops thread:
4-5 years ago. A dude knocked on my door one evening, when I started opening it he tried to force his way in. I was able to get the door shut. I locked it, grabbed my rifle and phone, and called cops. Sat there for 20-30 minutes waiting...

For the first five minutes or so, I could hear him walking around the house and I caught occasional glimpses of him through windows. So the cops show up and I tell them what happened. They tell me he had tried the same thing at a few other houses in the neighborhood, but then...
they tell me they aren’t going to go look for him because he probably isn’t in the neighborhood anymore. Weird, since I wasn’t the first house. What made them think I’d be the last? I got no answer, just “it’s a lot of work to put into something that will turn up nothing.” ...
They left, and I sat there wondering if dude was successful after failing at my house. A lot of elderly people in that neighborhood easily could have become victims that night, and I saw firsthand that the people they relied on to keep them safe didn’t give one shit about them...
So when people tell me that if I don’t excuse cops’ violent behavior, I shouldn’t call when I need help, it has no effect on me. I won’t call them, unless I’m in a situation where they’ll get violent with me if I don’t, like if I shoot someone trying to break into my house...
Even then, I’d call a lawyer first. I already know if cops don’t want to, they won’t help. You know who would’ve helped? My neighbor Tim*, who I later saw walk out the house with a pistol to stop an assault happening down the street, even though I’m sure he didn’t feel like it...
The moral of the story:
Tim > cops.
Find your neighborhood Tims, get to know your neighborhood Tims, be your neighborhood Tims.
