It's a good joke that 99% of the people vote shaming over Biden would absolutely never phone bank or go door to door, but it is absolutely a real strategic problem. Biden can run a front porch campaign in a primary but he's absolutely got issues trying that against Trump.

No candidate, Biden included, can beat the trump card that is the entire party dropping out and endorsing one person.

This is not breaking rules, it's just a reality of party run primaries, everyone but a single candidate signaling a specific candidate is right can't be beat.

But in this case the motivation of many of the most powerful platforms and people were not actually to align because they just realized after 11 months he's a cool guy, the motivation was to stop a specific candidate who had a massive grassroots system.

With the Republican party they had a light touch with Trump and really never seriously tried to force a pick to beat him, they let the process play out organically, and for them it worked like a charm. Trump won and Republicans have not only maintained power but used it too.

On the Democratic side of the equation, we'll now see what happens if you force "Jeb!" to win the primary.
