Harry Truman had been Vice President for 82 days 75 years ago. Mrs. Roosevelt put a hand on his shoulder and said, “ Harry, the President is dead”. Truman asked if there was anything he could do for her and Eleanor Roosevelt replied, “ No Mr. President, is there anything (1)
I can do for you.” Truman said he felt like the “ moon, the stars, all the planets had fallen on me”. He rose to the occasion. “The Buck Stops”here was a sign of the character of this plain spoken man from Missouri who became a great President.
