Why to never name a child after a parent, a thread. My wife and I are buying a home and the credit report pulled lists me as owning my parents' property. My father's name is Tony L with no middle name and mine is Tony M L (with a middle name), no Jr. 1/
The first time I saw a problem was with Nationwide insurance, my dad had accidentally backed into my car while we were on the same plan. Nationwide accused me of backing into myself for insurance fraud, still bitter about that one. 2/
Then, I found out that my bank uses security questions derived from info on my credit report. I couldn't access my account one day b/c I forgot my password and the security questions asked things from my father's credit history. They asked how long I had owned his car 3/
Now, a mortgage company wanted me to prove I don't own my parents' property with transfer proof despite the fact I've NEVER OWNED IT. In fact, the age of the property record is older than I am. It is apparently common for credit reports to become mixed like this 4/
The advice is to fill out all forms completely and accurately... like we have been. It's possible for this to happen when you haven't shared the same address in years, your social security number is different and your DOB is different. B/c of "human error" in a horrible system 6/
