PSA: The bulk of the food being thrown out by farmers is milk and eggs. This can not be easily *safely* donated. Cows don’t lay pint, quart, half gallon and gallon jugs based on what life stage they’re in. The milk gets pumped from the cow into several hundred or thousand gallon
tanks. These tanks are then trucked to a processing plant to be *pasteurized* thereby removing the possibility of contracting listeriosis, typhoid fever, tuberculosis, diphtheria, Q fever, and brucellosis, from contaminated milk. It is then bottled. *If* there was a way to truck
this milk from a farm to a food donation center, those centers don’t have the capability of safely processing and bottling it. And folks, those diseases are killers. Not what we need rn.
Eggs are perhaps slightly easier, but they still need to be cleaned on a large scale to
prevent things like Salmonella poisoning. Not confident the food donation centers are set up for this either.
Now look, I agree that it’s heartbreaking to see this good go to waste, but it’s not due to the greed of farmers like *some* folks are makin’ it out.
