Welcome to Dojo Le Cong ! 1st lesson into Filipino Escrima , the ancient fighting art of Phillipines , based on weapons skills that can be used for unarmed combat . Whilst popularly known for stick fighting techniques these are basis for older art of sword and knife fighting
There are many styles of escrima as there are many islands and communities across the Phillipines . One of the most feared is the Canete style in Cebu island which has spawned a combat sports competition there which I have competed in Oz tournaments with full body armour
Today’s first lesson is to learn the first five angles of attack in escrima and the basic strike called a lobtik . In this video I demo the first 5 angle strikes and the speed /force required for lobtik striking . Use any stick that’ll be strong enough and a target like a padded
Pole or tree . Or just into the air vs imaginary target . The 5th strike is a direct stabbing motion . These strikes can be used with any makeshift stick like an umbrella , rolled up magazine . Or even empty handed with a hammer fist . The strike angles remain the same .
These first 5 strikes are only start of a complex system of angled attacks , blocks , traps and disarming techniques . Practice practice practice ! See you for next lesson soon
