beginner's guide to anitwt (terms, unwritten rules, etc.) ! — a thread! ♡

— disclaimer: in no way i am saying that the terms listed here are only limited to anitwt! most of these terms are also used in other communities like kpoptwt and stantwt, in general.
— also this thread will be kinda long and all over the place so pls bear with me

— after seeing this tweet ( https://twitter.com/soft4noya/status/1248998611247140868?s=19) of one of my moots, @soft4noya (follow them uwu), i wanted to create this thread to sorta help those who are new to anitwt ♡
— if i missed something, feel free to dm me or qrt this thread and i'll make sure to add it here! :)

let's start with some basics, shall we? :]

1. anitwt
— basically, short for anime twitter
— a community where twitter users who love anime can get together
— tip: new users can use #anitwt to be able to find mutuals easier!

— in using #anitwt, it is recommended that you list down some of your favorite animes
— you can also include other interests (manga, kpop, etc.) so you are able to find people you can ~vibe~ with better!
— not really a requirement, but it makes things better

2. moots
— short for "mutuals"
— a mutual is someone you follow that also follows you back
— these are the people you can consider as your friends here in anitwt

3. oomf
— short for "one of my followers" or "one of my friends"
— almost has the same idea as moots
— only difference is this also means you're not only talking to your mutuals, but to all of your followers (basically, those who follow you but you don't follow back)

idk why i'm including this, but i saw ppl getting curious with these as well so...

for your twitter profile...

4. layout
— it refers to both your header and profile picture and how it "matches"
— it is common for people to make their header and profile picture match in order to give off a certain visual appeal/aesthetic
— but you can do whatever you want

5. that hashtag thing in the bio
— you are not obliged to do this in your bio ok write whatever you want
— this can usually be done in 2 ways:
* it can be a quote that is directly said by the character in the # or
* a quote you can imagine that the character will say

6. dn
— short for "display name"
— pretty self-explanatory

7. cw (written on dn or bio)
— this one has another meaning (but i'll get back to the other one later)
— short for "currently watching"
— yall wanna let your moots know what you are watching? go ahead!

let me say it again, you are not obliged to have a matching layout, or that character hashtag thing on the bio!! it is your twitter profile so do whatever you want with it!!

i just included it here for those who are curious about these things

now let's go back to more important terms, ok?

8. lrt
— it is common for new people to not know this one... trust me, i've been there
— short for "last retweet"
— used when someone is referring to the last tweet they retweeted

9. qrt
— short for "quote retweet"
— uhm so you're basically retweeting something but inserting your own tweet?
— it's pretty self-explanatory tbh why am i even explaining

(lrt and qrt are two important concepts that will be explained more later)

10. tw/
— short for "trigger warning"
— usually used when someone tweets about something that their followers may find triggering or uncomfortable (e.g. suicidal thoughts, alcohol, etc.)
— make sure to include tw/ as a heads-up to your followers if needed!!

11. cw/
— short for "content warning"
— kind of the same with the trigger warning?
— usually used by socmed au writers or writers in general to give a heads-up to their readers of what their content may contain

12. dm
— short for "direct message"
— pretty self-explanatory
— a true test if you can truly make friends here on anitwt lmao

13. gdm
— short for "group direct message"
— basically, twitter gcs
— i recommend that you join in gdms so you can find more friends

14. interact
— pretty self-explanatory??? but
— it's when you communicate with your moots/oomfs
— you can like and rt, but even a simple reply can go a long way
— INTERACT!! WITH!! YOUR!! MOOTS!! SO!! YOU!! CAN!! BE!! FRIENDS!!
— almost everyone is kind here so don't be shy

15. carrd ( http://carrd.co ) ☆
— a common thang here on anitwt
— a website where you can put more info about yourself (name, age, pronouns, anime recs, etc.)
— can't show an sc for this one bc i haven't made yet but make sure to check your moots' if they have one

16. sb
— short for "soft blocked"
— happens when someone blocks you then immediately unblocks you again
— end result? your account automatically unfollows that person and naturally, that person also unfollows you
— do this if you want to break the mutual without hurting them lmao

17. anitsd / anitwtsd
— short for "anitwt selca day"
— pretty explanatory
— you are not obliged to do this,,, if you are comfy enough and you want to do it, then do it, i'm sure everyone will support u dw
— happens every friday
— hashtag that's used is: #ANITWTSELFIEDAY

18. fancams and edits
— surprise surprise there's a difference lol
— fancam - music over a person dancing/performing (common for kpop idols)
— edits - pics or vids made by fans that consists of a character/idol with music, transition, effects, and text added in
— examples below:

— honestly, i think in anitwt, using the terms fancams and edits does not really matter that much since anime characters don't really... perform???
— but at least you know the difference now

and now for more terms (abbreviations, acronyms, etc.) that are commonly used as slang

— almost the same as in my opinion

— good morning / good night

— fail

— thank you / you're welcome

— i don't know / i don't really know

idc / idrc
— i don't care / i don't really care

— many ppl think that this just means of course sjjsjsjs

— usually used when someone is disappointed by something

tl;dr
— "too long, didn't read"
— usually used when a text is too long
— also used when someone makes a summary out of a long text in shorter terms

wbk
— "we been knew"
— it's as if you are regarding someone's thought as something obvious or a lot of people agree with
— "haikyuu is such a great anime!" "wbk"

lockdown
— when you see this on someone's dn it indicates that they're only talking about a certain thing
— for example, if they have "HAIKYUU SEASON 4 LOCKDOWN" as their dn, they're only talking about haikyuu season 4 as of the moment

simp
— being a simp for someone is saying you are willing to do anything for that person
— not in a cute or soft way tho
— used by a lot of thirsty fans basically

— for fuck's sake

— i swear to god

— inactive

sh or s/h
— semi-hiatus

i can't think of more terms lmao

ok so now, we're getting pretty serious this time

here are some unwritten rules in anitwt that you must always remember!

1. DO NOT QRT FANART.

remember about lrt a while back? yep, this is where it comes in.

2. DO NOT REPOST FANART AND EDITS.

this was also written in the thread i linked previously. pls remember to respect the fan artists and editors since they worked hard on what they do, to give us content that we all can enjoy okay?

if you want to use, for example, an edit on your thread, it would be better if you include the original link to the video!!

for fanarts, there are cases where SOME artists may allow their works to be reposted, but please have the basic decency to always ALWAYS ask for permission and give credit where credit is due (link their accounts, promote them, you can do whatever as long as you CREDIT them).

but still, it's better to just use the rt, like, reply, and lrt system imo

oh, and also, don't edit fanart just to pass it off as your own pls, it's not even yours in the first place.

3. when it comes to threads (aus or others), it would be better if you qrt them instead if replying.

contrary to fan art, it would be better if you qrt them instead to avoid messing up the thread.

threads are created to organize tweets, so don't ruin it for other people skksksq

4. this should be known by now BUT DO NOT POST MANGA LEAKS!! ESP IF THEY ARE FROM ILLEGAL SITES

yes, i get it, some of us can't help but be excited for our favorite mangas but please don't do this.

5. ALWAYS TAG SPOILERS!!

please remember that not everyone has watched the anime you have already watched or has read the manga you have already read.

chances are they have it in their to watch or to read list so please don't ruin the experience for people who have yet to watch an anime/manga! let them enjoy it at their own pace

6. as much as possible, please include your age and pronouns in your bio and carrd!

letting your moots know what your pronouns are will help them know what they can use for you so that they can avoid misgendering

as for age, it is to protect the minors that are here on twitter and be able to hold everyone accountable for their actions! esp when concepts like nsfw accs, p*dophilia come to play.

a video explaining why including pronouns on your bio is important!

some tweets i found that i personally agree with as to why including both age and pronouns in their bio is recommended

make sure to always take into consideration your moots' age and pronouns!!

(for those who are uncomfy with saying their age, especially minors, you can put or indicate 'minor' instead)

i really wanted to include more stuff, but since this thread is aimed for beginners on anitwt, i tried my best to just include the basic stuff so yall won't be overwhelmed!!
