Thread: Some Harry and Meghan musings:

Did they make a big mistake unceremoniously dumping Canada for LA? Harry and Meghan may want the Hollywood lifestyle, but America has its rules.

1. If Harry becomes a US citizen the oath requires him to abjure all his titles.

2. So, no more Prince Harry and that would be an end to the short-lived Duchy of Sussex. Meghan Markle will never allow herself to go back to Meghan Markle.

What about a Green Card for Harry Markle? Could do, but then he’ll have to pay tax on all his worldwide earnings....

3. ...including any passive earnings his Dad leaves him from the Duchy of Cornwall. That money by the way is what Harry and Meghan live on. Dual taxation means the first $70k is sheltered but the rest of it... subject to UK AND US taxes.

4. OK then, what about a live/work visa? What would Harry Markle get? “Alien of extraordinary talent and ability” O1 visa? For doing what, waving and giving secret briefings to friendly /tame press like @tombradby?

5. It should be plain Harry Markle does not qualify for an O1 visa and it will be a matter of public record as to what he has, and people will demand fairness. Trump, as well, could deny Harry a visa and for once I would be delighted to see that

6. You can, in fact, make an excellent case that Harry Markle is an illegal immigrant, or ‘undocumented person’ depending on your preference. If coming to America on a spousal visa it must be arranged in advance. Did they? Last minute flight out and all?

7. If you enter America on a legal visa you can change later, so what visa did Harry come in on? Some kind of diplomatic one for a Prince of the United Kingdom, as he was then? But that’s no longer valid as of the end of March (his Royal status). So is he overstating?

8. On what legal grounds is Harry Sussex in America?

9. And what visa or green card will he qualify for - and will he be prepared to pay double taxes for the rest of his life just so Megan Markle can revive her deeply uninspiring C-to-D list career as an actress? Because Harry’s money from Cornwall is way, way more than hers.

10. Once the above sinks in, I highly doubt Meghan Markle will be willing either to give up all her titles or pay twice to the UK Exchequer and the US Treasury. To quote the ever-inspiring Spinal Tap, “Money talks and bullshit walks”

11. In short, I expect to see the Markles come back to the UK unless there is some halfway decent Commonwealth territory where double taxation doesn’t apply.
