Unsolicited reflections & gratitude after a week in an
@umichmedicine #COVID19 ICU:
@jencirino is a fantastic ICU fellow & will be an even better attending next year
@MegSmith471 will be the chair of a surgery department someday
1/6

All of us
@UMichSurgery are lucky to have
@jdimick1 as our chair. He stopped by almost every single day to check in, drop off snacks, & gear our needs

Speaking of snacks, surprise food or caffeine can be the single greatest morale booster

Ortho residents may play dumb but they are damn smart. My co-intern Arya came into a totally foreign situation, worked his tail off, & thrived. And provided some much needed humor
3/6

Updating family by phone can be incredibly difficult. Perhaps the most heartbreaking part & often frustrating for both sides. So much & so little can happen in the span of hrs to days for these pts

Extubating a
#COVID19 patient feels pretty awesome
4/6

Worth repeating that RNs and RTs are the true
#FrontLineHeroes & good communication has never been more important in healthcare

Any single member, no matter the role, can lift or break a team. And morale/attitudes are hugely important

Gonna be lots of interesting convos on good changes that have occurred
@umichmedicine that should become permanent. Although somehow I don’t think it’ll be this easy to find parking when we ramp back up...but what’s life if we don’t have dreams?
