So last night my neighbors decided to have a birthday party. I& #39;m talking full-blown karaoke party with speakers that vibrated the roofs of all the houses in the immediate vicinity. A party with people making merry - during a lockdown.
I went over there in peace to ask them to turn down the music and reevaluate their life choices, seeing as their foolishness won& #39;t help stop the spread. They didn& #39;t even respond to the bell or my incessant car honking.
Finally, when other neighbours saw that I had made the first move they decided to now come out of their homes one by one to support. All this while I had been trying to call the police (I& #39;ll come back to this)
I went behind their house and yelled my head off. I finally caught their attention and the homeowner stepped out onto his balcony. He didn& #39;t understand why I was angry and why there were about 10 other angry folks with me. Impudence. Petrol + Fire.
After my failed attempt to join the man on his balcony, I was bundled away and handed over to my wife. This man had actually asked me if I knew why they were playing loud music at midnight or the importance of their gathering. The nerve.
All this while I had been trying to reach the police. The only number that connected was 112 and the man that picked up asked me to call 193 to be connected directly with a patrol team. He later called to say it was rather 191. Alright. I tried 18555 too.
None of the other emergency numbers worked. The only thing I kept getting was an extended play of some GBC-style music right before "call ended". I also didn& #39;t get a call back or follow up, nothing. Now that scared me. In these times the emergency lines don& #39;t work? Wow.
To anyone being blatantly foolish in these times, stop it. Stop. Please.
