You ask for it so: Teachers advices, a thread, I'll give you some tips for when you need to do assignments or papers
So I am a teacher at a college (history of science) but I have already worked with high school (Biology) and elementary school (science) and I got some tips for you guys!
-Use academic google, always use renowned articles or magazines like SCIENCE or Nature for example, avoid using Wikipedia as a reference! Always have reliable source. Scielo is a good site for finding good articles.
-We have a sense of humor. When doing a long presentation (sometimes in college we have presentations of one to two hours) try to make a light joke or put a meme we love it as long as it doesn't become the focus of the presentation, just to lighten the mood
-Still on presentations, whenever you use Power Point try to use as few texts as possible, do not let the presentation know more about the subject than you. It is a tool not a support
-Ask and show! Whenever you are writing a paper try to show what you have already done, the more corrections in the process the better the final version will be
-We are human too, teachers have bad days and days when they don't want to go to work, we get tired and we don't know everything about everything, respect is important, we have feelings too
-Be creative, not everything needs to be the same all the time, try to do things in different ways, draw, use music, make theaters when possible, creativity stands out!
-Try to contextualize. Looking at the past with the eyes of the present can distort the facts, trying to understand the historical moment gives you a more realistic view of what happens. We call this anachronism and diachronism
-Try to understand what events led up to what you are researching, always ask yourself "why did this happen?" almost nothing in history happens by chance, understanding what led to that happening makes you better understand the importance of that event
-There is no silly question, every question is important, don't be afraid to ask your opinion, even if other students don't understand or find it funny, it's important to know that you have something to say
-Not everyone learns at the same speed or with the same methods, find what works best for you and take your own time to make sure you really learned
-Using long words doesn't mean that you are smarter, nobody is born writing like Shakespeare, is always better to use common words that you understand than to use fancy words and failing to get your ideas across clearly. Write formally but in a comfortable way.
-Every progress is important, don't feel less intelligent because you don't learn so fast, any progress is incredible and valid.
-Find what you have unique and explore it, if you know a lot about music put this in your works, make links between things you understand, not every reference needs to be of classical thinkers, your daily life is also full of important things.
(part 2)- I've always been very good with the arts, so I used to put references to that in my assignments, and that's my job today, studying science through art. I always managed to use something I liked to try to understand something new
- You're doing good! Don't let others say the opposite
- Straight A's doesn't mean you're smarter. Tests doesn't explore all types of intelligences, not everyone is good at doing math or writing texts, try your best but don't be sad for not being the best in the class, trying is as important as getting good grades
-And finally, respect yourself, if you don't feel comfortable doing something talk about it, the learning process should never be torture, if something bothers you talk about it!
I love you and you are important đź’ś I'm proud of you
