Quick thread on #BikeNYC after my little tour today:

1 - I did Park Slope to Union Sq & back again, was in protected lanes almost the entire time in Manhattan, by *far* the scariest sections were Downtown BK in both directions, just insane that there are no real lanes here yet
Definitely felt today what I was getting at here. Manhattan's protected network has made good progress. Then you cross bridge into BK and are thrown to the wolves. Whatever DOT is afraid of here—cops? brownstone owners?—they need to get the fuck over it. https://twitter.com/travis_robert/status/1246061554073776129?s=20
2 - This city desperately needs to roll out a neighborhood slow zone program. Not single streets—entire neighborhoods where if you're in a car you feel like you're crossing a threshold into a zone where you need to be careful as hell. LES. East Village. Cobble Hill. Etc etc.
Raise crosswalks to sidewalk level. Narrow the hell out of driving lanes and line them with thorn bushes that could scratch that precious BMW if you go too fast (lol). So much of our speeding is people turning off arterials into neighborhood streets & getting no cue to go slower.
3 - As I mentioned earlier, still plenty of drivers being assholes out there, but with lighter traffic it is so easy to see how this place could quickly become one of the best cycling cities in the world with the right mayor. No action item here, just made me happy!
