"The warship’s doctors estimated that more than 50 crew members would die"

This seems like important context for Crozier's decisions -- i.e., that he wasn't just "panicking" or pulling his own numbers out of the air. https://twitter.com/johnismay/status/1249462220771201026
As expected, article also says Crozier's immediate superior RADM Baker was pressing for less drastic disruptions, as was INDOPACOM cdr ADM Davidson. Still a lot to be learned about what happened at the steps in between Crozier and Modly. 2/
Indeed, doesn't really have an answer on the Modly - Crozier interaction, where apparently Modly's CoS was reaching out direct to Crozier, around the intervening flags, but despite that Crozier fired off the missive? It's a piece that doesn't quite add up yet 3/
I fully expect the crusty old salts who have been blaming Crozier to now say he should have ignored his own docs because Fox / OAN obviously gave him the info that CV19 doesn't hurt people under 45 so his shipboard docs were just wrong 4/ 🙄
Also hints here about virus concerns already at the time of the Hanoi port visit, but with PACOM insisting it go forward. To be fair, the article does not say that Crozier or anyone else on the ship actually argued against doing so at the time. 5/
Anyway, I hardly expect this to be the end of the story. We still don't know much about actions and guidance from the admirals between Crozier and CNO/Modly, really just a few hints here. 6/
And I'll add my usual that any views or reactions or curiosity expressed here is my personal view and not me representing any institution, nor do I know anything beyond what I read in the news on this topic. 7/7
