Recently, I have been super impressed two elements of Zoom ( @zoom_us). First, the scalability has been amazing. From 10mm to 200mm users, with increasing usage per user. Wow. Second, the product is so slick and naturally easy to use. Very impressive.
We talk a lot in Silicon Valley about "first-mover advantage." But Zoom was hardly a first-mover. The biggest & brightest companies have coveted this space for years & invested against it. Cisco, Microsoft, Google, Facebook. But Zoom was the one that broke out.
In his recent podcast with @patrick_oshag, @GavinSBaker talks about Zoom (27:35). He notes that "very small differences in UI/UX matter immensely." And as a result, Zoom is now "woven into the fabric of our society." Worth a listen. http://investorfieldguide.com/baker2/
The products of the forerunners/precursors to Zoom were "non-optimal." There were difficult to install, it was hard to initiate a meeting, & they were less intuitive. I have been surprised at how many people I know in all walks of life who have taken to the product so naturally.
3) Zoom has implemented a bug bounty program w/ @Hacker0x01. Bug bounty programs have been used for years by companies like Microsoft, Google, & Facebook as the very best way to find vulnerabilities. https://hackerone.com/zoom  4) The press attention works: it drives action.
You may all be wondering if I am an investor in Zoom. Unfortunately, I am not. But boy do I wish I were.
