the amount of shit Diane Abbott has gone through in her line of duty honestly makes me tear up every time i think about it. it's not enough to be 'strong' and 'resilient' when this kind of prolonged and institutional misogynoir moves like a violent virus in the body.
where do Black women go to feel safe when working within social change? who do we rely on when often 'social change' rhetoric excludes Black women's liberation? it isn't heroic or brave to fight the good fight against all odds, it's survival and not everyone can see it through.
sometimes representation politics feels selfish and indulgent. i love seeing Abbott and Butler as a reflection of what could be. i hate that the thinnest silver lining comes at a cost of their humanity and Black womanhood within these spaces.
i'm too drunk for this. it's not a surprise that this country and it's people see us as disposable. it doesn't make it hurt any less.
