I am not a Christian because I want to go to Heaven. It& #39;s hard for people to understand my daily actions aren& #39;t tied to an idea of peace in my afterlife.
I am a Christian because I fell in love with the revolutionary values Jesus practiced daily.
I am a Christian bc when I read the story of a homeless refugee, who was born to a single teenage mom, who would hold the rich and powerful accountable and shamed those who held up an empire that caused so much pain during that time: I was inspired to dedicate my life to Christ
To follow the work of a revolutionary, who while knowing He was the son of God, He did not use this knowledge to stunt on people and flex, but he mobilized and broke bread with the poor and troubled.
He gave them confidence, value, and worth during times the Empire made them feel less than. His acts caused Him to be brutalized by the state, then crucified, which during that time only revolutionaries were killed on a cross.
His story is a powerful reminder of regardless who our Father / Mother is, regardless if we are heir to a throne, we should sacrifice our daily lives to bring justice here on earth.
What good is it to devote your life to a religion where the most sacrifice you do is be late to brunch so you can attend mass / church service. To devote yourself to a religion where the most action you do is pray, often times for yourself; not for the state of the world.
Trust. I wouldn& #39;t be where I am without daily prayer, so no disrespect to it. But to live in a world where there is so much injustice, and you do nothing https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="☹️" title="Frowning face" aria-label="Emoji: Frowning face"> but still feel you are better than someone else because of your religion? Your religion should call you to action.
