I've been wanting to make a thread about my favorite characters in Sentai (one from each series). Figure there's no time better than the present. Will stick to only core team members, no 6ths or extras (though this would only change, like, 2 choices). But here we go...
First we have Peggy Matsuyama. I love how they gave everyone a role in Goranger, and Peggy fills a unique niche of being the demolitions expert. Very capable and memorable, going outside what's to be expected of the lone girl in a team from the 1970s.
From JAKQ we have Higashi Ryu. Probably the first real "lancer" archetype in Sentai, Ryu was just really cool through the early episodes. A shame he gets forgotten later on, because there was a lot of potential here. The first swordsman in Sentai.
I've said it before, but I really think Nagisa Maria is a truly underrated pink due to being overshadowed by people not liking the Miss America suit nor Diane. Extremely capable, very smart, with a deep backstory, she's one of my favorite Sentai pinks.
While not having the greatest amount of content, I really like Kiyama Jun as a character. The team chef that's kind of a shy doof that can pull out wrestling moves in combat. And he's the scientist for the team. A weird combo, but yet it works. I only wish he got more.
The first Red here, Hiba Takayuki is a massive step up from the ball of nothing that is Owashi. Compared to Team Dad Akagi, Hiba is more of an action star, he strikes out on his own a lot. Fun while not being annoying, it's enough to be my favorite of Sun Vulcan.
Next up is Kuroda Kanpei, a really interesting Black. Kuroda has a rare designation of being the tactical strategist, but not the scientist of the team. And thanks to him being played by Haruta Junichi, he also gets a lot of impressive action scenes.
Now this is an underrated Red. Dan Hokuto is actually one of my favorite Reds. I love how he takes care of the kids, how he uses two swords in combat, and how the show didn't mind making him a little goofy. A friendly Red that hit the right notes for me.
I know Jun is the favorite in Bioman, but I like how the show made a conscious effort to have Katsuragi Hikaru start the show very weak, but grow throughout into someone stronger both as a fighter and as a person. She's very caring, and episode 39 is a highlight of the show.
