The theme today on the Sunday talk shows seems to be, “Will Trump listen to the medical experts by May 1?”

Reality check: We don’t elect public officials to listen only to doctors, who naturally see the world primarily through the lens of medical science.

We don’t elect public officials to listen only to economists, who naturally see the world primarily through the lens of economic analysis.

We don’t elect public officials to listen only to historians, sociologists, cultural anthropologists, or any other single parochial group.

We elect public officials to carefully deliberate, weigh the evidence, observe and interpret the unfolding circumstances, and exercise prudence in executing a response.

If you want to criticize Trump along those lines, go for it. But at least ask the right questions.
