I won’t explain why I was learning about this (I’m a baseball nerd and I’m playing a nerdy baseball computer game rn lol) but I found out about this Japanese art style where you take pics of useless objects or relics, named after a baseball player named Gary Thomasson lol.
It’s called Hyperart Thomasson. He had fizzled in the MLB a bit and spent his final two seasons with the Yomuiri Giants in Japan, after signing the largest international contract in their league’s history. He set the league strikeout record. He wasn’t good in Japan either lol.
Japanese artist Genpei Akasegawa thought Thomasson the perfect analogy for “an object, part of a building, that was maintained in good condition, but with no purpose, to the point of becoming a work of art." So that’s what he called his style of art photography lol.
Hope someone enjoys this random little thread, I found it funny lol. What a fucking burn on this guy. Poor dude honestly lol. I love baseball lol, it always leads me weird places like this.
